"Being Koi" by Linda Neel
Original artwork by Linda Neel
30" x 30"
100% silk, dye and wax pastel mounted to panel
Each work starts with a white piece of fine silk. I have developed a complex process which has me painting with dye directly on the silk and painting with dye on a silk screen to create elements of design and pattern. Those elements are often geometric and always abstract. Once the design is created on the screen, I then transfer that design onto the silk via a modified silk screen process. Additional painting or surface design techniques such as the use of pencil, wax pastel and ink, are used to get the final work. The silk is then processed for permanence, archivally mounted to a high quality birch panel support and finally, varnished to protect it from the effects of light and environment.
